Government road safety blueprint welcomed

The government’s ten-year road safety blueprint has been welcomed by a number of automotive organisations.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said the plans, which were published by the Department for Transport, are "impressive" and carry no hints of complacency.

"We believe that the declared aspiration – to have the safest roads in the world by 2020 – is excellent," he added.

Mr Rodger suggested that reducing the number of people who are injured and killed on the UK’s roads by 33 per cent is ambitious. However, he added it is good to know that the will to do so is there.

Drive & Survive Managing Director Seb Goldin added it will take "dedicated effort" in order to lower the number of road traffic accidents, adding comprehensive driver risk management programmes in the workplace is needed to help the goal be achieved.

He also suggested improvements to roads and said that encouragement to take extra training will be of benefit.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19133639-ADNFCR

Its good to see the government taking enough action to actually get positive feedback from watchdogs and other orgs alike. Normally they’re hesistant and just do the minimum.
