Nissan GT-R named World Performance Car of the Year

Nissan’s GT-R has beaten off competition from a number of prestigious other brands in order to win the 2009 World Performance Car of the Year award.

The marque pipped Aston Martin, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche and Lamborghini to the post in order to take first place in the competition.

Paul Wilcox, managing director of Nissan Motor Great Britain, said the GT-R offers a unique blend of outstanding yet accessible performance, everyday practicality and advanced technology.

"Despite being up against some formidable contenders, the World Car of the Year judges clearly recognised those same qualities and its unmatched specification in this market sector," he added.

Nissan has taken some 1,250 deposits for the GT-R since order books opened in April 2008. UK buyers began taking delivery of their new vehicles at the beginning of this month.

The company recently welcomed the car scrappage scheme announced by chancellor of the exchequer Alistair Darling in the Budget.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19138852-ADNFCR
