Zircotec coating for Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce
Lamborghini has chosen automotive coating firm Zircotec to provide a high-performance thermal barrier for its Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, it has announced.
The ceramic-based substance will be applied to the lightweight car’s exhaust system to reduce the need for heat shields while also allowing sensitive materials to be used close to the hot exhaust pipe.
Luca Meschiari, head of exhausts at Lamborghini, explained that the product from Zircotec is key to reducing weight on the vehicle.
It is plasma-sprayed, which essentially welds it to the base material, meaning it is more resilient during abrasion, life testing and heat cycling. The coating can also be altered in thickness to help deal with "hot spots".
"Their coating helps save weight yet is also durable, and meets our requirements in terms of performance and quality more than other solutions we have seen," she added.
Zircotec has previously provided a thermal coating to the Subaru Impreza-based Litchfield Type-20 in order to improve its efficiency.
