The Honda Insight is outselling its rivals in the hybrid market in its first month of sales, it has been asserted.

In a statement issued yesterday, the maker of the vehicle said a total of 229 Insights have been bought in the UK since it first became available on April 4th.

This places it ahead of the Toyota Prius, which has sold 198 units and is identified as the vehicle’s "nearest rival".

When sales of the Honda Civic Hybrid are taken into consideration, the marque has sold a total of 308 hybrid family motors in the UK in April so far.

John Kingston, environment and government affairs manager of Honda UK, said: "The Insight is proving a hit with cost-savvy consumers looking for a cleaner car that’s more affordable."

He noted it offers savings such as reduced road tax of £15 per year, as well as "great" fuel economy.

Earlier this month, Toyota announced its new third generation Prius will go on sale in the summer.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19148373-ADNFCR
