Volvo 'offers relief to hay fever sufferers'

Hay fever sufferers around the country who do not relish the idea of a summer involving streaming eyes and runny noses could appreciate a new innovation by Volvo.

The marque explains that all of its new models are now fitted as standard with pollen filters and systems that monitor cabin air quality in order to create the healthiest possible environment for passengers.

Citing figures from the NHS, Volvo notes that hay fever affects 20 per cent of the UK’s population, adding that the condition can cause symptoms such as itchy eyes and sneezing.

This could affect a person’s capacity to see the road properly while behind the wheel, regardless of the quality of their car lights or wiper blades.

Peter Rask, managing director of Volvo Car UK, said: "It makes sense for us to focus attention on improving air quality and minimise any potential safety risk that could arise from an allergic reaction while driving."
