King of Italy’s car to be auctioned
A car used by the King of Italy to chauffeur General Franco, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini around Rome is due to be auctioned in the next few days, it has been announced.
The 1939 Fiat Torpedo is due to be sold by International Auction House COYS and it is predicted to go under the hammer for more than £250,000.
At the end of the second world war, the vehicle became the official transport for Italy’s first prime ministers, De Nicola and Einaudi. It remained a part of the fleet in the Quirinale palace until 1963.
Chris Routledge, managing director of COYS, said: “We have already had huge interest from clients around the world as well as from a number of collectors in Italy.”
He noted that the car was also used by Pope Pious XII, who served as the head of the Roman Catholic Church until his death in 1958.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19163257-ADNFCR
