‘High consumer interest’ in scrappage scheme
There is a high level of interest in the government’s new car scrappage scheme, it has been revealed.
Figures released by Motoring.co.uk show that the number of people searching for new cars in April was almost treble that of March.
Commenting on the findings, motor industry expert Peter Gerrard said: "The figures are evident of consumer interest in the scrappage scheme and it’s encouraging to see that a surprising number of people have been searching for a more economical replacement such as the Ford Fiesta or Kia Picanto."
The Vauxhall Corsa is also proving popular, with searches up a whopping 33 per cent in the last month.
As part of the scheme, drivers with a car that is ten years old or more can trade their vehicle in and receive £2,000 towards a new one.
Mr Gerrard said that, despite some criticism, the initiative looks set to be a shot in the arm for the motor trade.
In related news, car bulb customers may be interested to learn that the new Vauxhall Astra, which features wing-shaped lights, will be in showrooms by the end of the year.
