Volkswagen Golf is ‘Europe’s most popular model’
Drivers searching for car headlight bulbs may be interested to learn that the Volkswagen Golf has reclaimed its title as Europe’s most popular model.
Figures released by automotive data provider JATO Dynamics show that sales of the Golf increased by almost 11 per cent during the month of April.
Models also selling well include the new Ford Fiesta, with year-to-date sales up by 26.7 per cent.
Other models claiming a place in the top ten include the Vauxhall Corsa, Fiat Punto and Peugeot 207.
Car sales in Germany are up more than 19 per cent on last year, due in part to the car scrappage scheme which was recently launched there.
Commenting on the figures, David Di Girolamo, head of JATO Consult, said: "National government scrappage schemes are really starting to have an impact, both in the sales volumes in different markets and in the type of cars being sold."
The UK launched its own scrappage scheme yesterday, offering motorists a £2,000 discount on a new car if they trade in a car which is ten years old or more.

A great German car, one of my favourite hatchbacks. The R32 Golf is particularly special.
i would say this is one of the graestest cars of all time the good old golf boy racer
