Motorists warned over vehicle matching scams
Car headlight customers are being urged to watch out for vehicle matching scams when selling their motors.
According to the Office of Fair Trading, UK consumers lost £3 million last year after being contacted by people promising to find buyers for their cars in return for a fee.
However, in many cases there is no buyer and sellers commonly find themselves losing between £80 and £99 each.
Advice service Consumer Direct received 1,600 complaints about vehicle matching scams last year, although the true number of victims is thought to be much higher.
Peter Stratton of the Trading Standards Institute commented: "High pressure selling alongside cold calling makes this a very successful scam, often leaving the consumer with very little chance of obtaining redress."
In related news, motorists were warned by the RAC last week to avoid "cowboy clampers" by paying attention to parking signs on private land.

Scammers are innovating day by day in their business! Hope some day that these scammers change their mind and contribute for the betterment of the society. – Mike
