Motorists urged to buy ‘correct’ tyres online
Those buying tyres and car bulbs online have been urged to choose the most appropriate ones for their vehicle.
Not-for-profit awareness group Tyresafe said that some drivers are putting their safety at risk by purchasing tyres with the wrong speed symbol recommended for their car.
The organisation’s chairman Stuart Jackson claimed that some people wrongly believe the symbol relates to how fast they drive.
"The reality is that a tyre’s speed symbol is not just a measure of the tyre’s maximum speed capability, it also provides an indication of overall performance, even at lower speeds," he explained.
Although many motorists are feeling the pinch, they should not be tempted to compromise their vehicle handling and safety, Mr Jackson furthered.
In related news, tyre distributor ETS Euromaster recently warned drivers to increase their tyre pressure when carrying heavy loads this summer.
Chris Hufflett, a spokesman for the organisation, said although it may seem like a small job, many people do not bother doing this.
