Volvo S40 DRIVe named green car of the year
In news which may be of interest to those searching for car bulbs and wiper blades, the Volvo S40 DRIVe has been named as the green car of the year at the What Car? Green awards.
Steve Fowler, editor of What Car? magazine, said the judging panel had been impressed by the way in which Volvo refined its existing technologies and added that the car is safe, spacious enough for a family and cheap to run.
London mayor Boris Johnson, who attended the event, commented: "There are clear incentives for manufacturers to raise the bar higher and higher to design less gas guzzling cars that take hundreds of pounds off consumers’ fuel bills."
Other cars that scooped prizes include the Mini Cooper S, which picked up the award for the best green sports car and the BMW 318d, which was named best green executive car.
Meanwhile, a poll carried out by the AA revealed that an increasing number of motorists are using their cars less after the cost of petrol reached £1 a litre last week.
