Motorists warned over ‘ghost cars’
Motorists shopping for used vehicles have been warned to beware of ‘ghost car’ scams.
According to Carcraft, criminal gangs are beginning to target motorists through well-known car retail sites and offer them cheap deals on cars which don’t exist.
Once the buyer agrees to buy a vehicle they are re-directed to a site where their cash will be securely held while it is being shipped to them.
However, the vehicle never reaches the driver and the money is pocketed by the gangs involved.
Julia Phipps, group marketing director at Carcraft, said that if a deal seems too good to be true then it probably is.
"Alarm bells should also start ringing if the ad is littered with spelling mistakes or the phone number shown only offers a recorded answer machine," she added.
In related news, motorists were recently warned to watch out for vehicle matching scams when buying used cars.

You should never buy something as expensive as a car online. Especially without double checking everything. People seem to think the Internet is 100% safe to buy things over now. In some ways it is safer, but people need to be more aware.
