More Brits ‘planning UK driving holidays’
The poor rate of exchange between the euro and the pound, coupled with the economic downturn, means an increasing number of people are planning to holiday in the UK this year.
A recent poll carried out by retailer Protyre revealed that 60 per cent of Brits will be taking a domestic break over the summer, with three-quarters of those planning to drive to their destinations.
However, with a quarter of vehicles in the UK having at least one badly worn tyre, the company is warning motorists to ensure they are prepared before setting out.
As well as checking tyre pressures against the manufacturer’s recommendations, drivers are also advised to fit valve caps and remove any dirt or stones from the tyre tread.
In related news, research carried out recently by Comma Oil revealed that more than half of cars in the UK are running low on oil, with one in five described as "dangerously low".

I personally am a big fan of road trips…except if everyone else is doing them! I guess it’s going to be gridlock city out there during the school holidays!
have to say, with 5 kids I tend not to do too many long road holidays, but we do day trips within a 250 mile radius! Definitely a good idea to check tyres, oil etc before you go. Nothing worse than having a breakdown
Flights are getting very expensive, especially if you want to take luggage or sports equipment, like a snowboard. I am also beginning to really dislike the hassle of airport queues and security, with 2 hour check-in times!
