Child car seats 'cause confusion'

More than one-third (38 per cent) of car bulbs customers do not know the height or age at which a youngster can travel without a child car safety seat, according to a new study.

New research published by Which? also shows that only 41 per cent of parents know that the law requires them to use an appropriate child seat when carrying a passenger below 135 cm in height or younger than 12 years.

The consumer watchdog’s study, which is being released to coincide with the start of Child Safety Week, indicates that 53 per cent of parents completely trust retailers to provide them with good advice about fitting car seats.

Richard Headland, editor of Which? Car, said: "It doesn’t matter if they’re ten months or ten years old, children need to use child car seats until they’re taller than 135cm or they reach their 12th birthday."

Child Safety Week runs until June 28th and is the Child Accident Prevention Trust’s flagship campaign based around community education.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19229796-ADNFCR
