Electric smart car ‘set for production’
Car headlight bulbs customers keen to reduce their environmental impact may welcome news that the zero-emission smart fortwo electric drive vehicle is set for small series production in the UK.
The vehicle features a lithium-ion battery and, as such, has a longer range, shorter charging time and improved performance over its predecessors.
Boris Johnson, the mayor of London, said it is "fantastic" to see firms such as smart "leading the way" to make electric vehicles an "easy choice" for people living in the city.
He explained that the proliferation of such motors will help to curb climate change and improve air quality and levels of noise.
The vehicle has been given the green light after a series of successful trials in the UK, with organisations such as the Metropolitan Police taking part in the tests.
In recent weeks, it was announced that the Sheffield chamber of commerce elected to make use of several fortwo cdi smart cars as part of a corporate order.
