Electric cars “are a modern fad”
Electric cars may sound environmentally friendly on the surface, however, one organisation has claimed that they offer few advantages.
Hugh Bladon, a spokesman for the Association of British Drivers, described the idea of electric cars as a "modern fad" and claimed they will "do no good whatsoever".
"Everyone is really excited about electricity saying it causes less pollution and so on, but of course the electricity has to come from somewhere, so you have to have power stations to generate it," he noted.
Mr Bladon said that instead of manufacturing electric vehicles, existing cars should be made as clean as possible.
He also claimed that electric cars, which are much quieter than vehicles fuelled by traditional sources, pose a greater threat to pedestrians.
The government recently announced plans to invest £25 million into a series of trials involving low-carbon vehicles.
Trials will take place across eight UK locations, bringing together educational institutions, councils and government agencies.
