Cabbie falls foul of split wiper blades
The need to replace wiper blades has been highlighted by the case of a taxi driver from Gedling, who discovered that his cab has failed its roadworthy test due to a split wiper blade and a taxi light sign.
This is Nottingham reports that David Guiblin has been a cab driver for the best 15 years and replaced his vehicle three years ago. The purpose build taxi has passed its previous inspections without any problems.
However, last week the hackney cab failed its latest inspection due to split wiper blades and for having ‘taxi’ written on the light above the windscreen.
Under Gedling borough council’s licensing rules, the only words allowed on the light are ‘for hire’ but Mr Guiblin believes that he has agreed with the council that he could use the word taxi.
The council’s head of planning and environment Peter Baguley explained that the cab driver has now been issued with a licence.
He added: "A couple of issues were raised when the vehicle was tested.
"We looked at these and informed both Mr Guiblin and the testing centre that the only outstanding problem was the wiper blades – which were sorted out."
Meanwhile, the Burton Mail reports that up to 40 vehicles in the Church Gresley area have been targeted by vandals resulting in a variety of damage including scratched bodywork and broken wiper blades.
