Parents warned over school run safety

Parents have been warned not to neglect child safety on the school run.
Research by Sainsbury’s Car Insurance found that a fear of being late causes many parents to drive erratically.

Drivers shopping for car bulbs and wiper blades may be interested to learn that one million people have been involved in school run accidents over the last five years.

Lucy Hunter, Sainsbury’s Car Insurance manager, said it is important to stay alert and focussed during busy times.

"What’s most concerning about our findings is that a significant number of people are currently not ensuring that their children are properly secured in the car, so we urge all school run drivers to double check that their young passengers are strapped in and sitting in the appropriate safety seating," she added.

Figures suggest that motorists in Wales and the south-east of England are the most likely to be involved in an accident while taking children to and from school.

In other car safety news, a study by Sheila’s Wheels revealed that 15 per cent of motorists damage their vehicles while driving outside of the UK.
