Drivers urged to keep keys safe
While many drivers lock their laptops and other valuables away at home, just one per cent choose to hide their car keys, it has been revealed.
Research carried out by Vauxhall found that six per cent of burglaries involve the theft of a vehicle.
Further results show that one per cent of motorists leave their car keys by the front door, while a third leave them on display in the kitchen.
To help highlight the consequences of leaving keys on display, Vauxhall has launched a new initiative with Bedfordshire Police.
Chief inspector James Goldsmith said many residents fail to take the basic step of keeping their keys out of reach.
"A vehicle is often the second biggest expenditure for a household and having a vehicle stolen can cause major disruption, cost, inconvenience and emotional upset to the people concerned," he added.
Meanwhile, figures released by British Car Auctions last week show that demand for prestige vehicles has increased over the last month.
