Biba: Don’t cut back on car maintenance
Drivers have been warned not to cut back on car maintenance as a result of the economic downturn.
The British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba), said motorists should not be tempted to reduce the amount they spend on necessary items such as new car wiper blades and headlights.
Biba technical services manager Steve Foulsham warned that failing to take care of a vehicle could mean that insurance is invalid in the event of an accident.
He pointed out that driving on worn tyres could land motorists in serious trouble.
"If you were to have a claim, if your tyres where illegal then technically that could nullify your insurance," Mr Foulsham added.
Figures released by the organisation earlier this year revealed that 29 per cent of insurance brokers have seen their customers cut back on non-essential cover and optional add-ons.
A further 16 per cent have seen clients increase their excesses.
