Holidaymakers ‘should research destinations before driving there’
British holidaymakers have been urged to research their planned destination before driving there.
A recent poll by the RAC revealed that a third of Britons are planning to drive within Europe this summer.
Commenting on the findings, Tim Uden, a managing editor at the Backpackers
Ultimate Guide, said it is important that travellers do their homework before leaving the UK and research local rules regarding parking and road tolls.
"It only takes a couple of days to get used to driving on the right-hand side, but during those first few days you will need to pay extra attention while driving, particularly when making left turns and when entering roundabouts," he explained.
Those driving to large cities may find it easier to park on the outskirts and take a train or bus into the centre, Mr Uden added.
The AA recommends that motorists keep their documents to hand when driving in Europe and ensure they pack their paper counterpart as well as their photocard licence.
