Motorists ‘want tighter learner restrictions’
The majority of motorists want to see tighter restrictions imposed on learner drivers, new research has revealed.
In a survey carried out by Direct Line and road safety charity Brake, 87 per cent of people said drivers should be required to build up a certain level of experience before being allowed on the roads at night.
Almost all of those polled (95 per cent) said road safety should be taught to children in school, with 79 per cent calling for it to be introduced as a compulsory subject.
Brake chief executive Cathy Keeler said introducing restrictions is not about discriminating against the young.
"Young drivers are more likely than any other age group to die, particularly young male drivers," she added.
Meanwhile, insurance provider Admiral claimed earlier this week that the number of Brits involved in accidents has been rising steadily in recent years.
