Motorists ‘ripped off by garages’
Thousands of British motorists believe they have been charged too much when getting their car serviced or MOT’d in the last five years, it has been revealed.
A study carried out by car industry body Motor Codes found that one in five drivers have been charged more than they were initially quoted when getting their vehicle repaired.
Those shopping for car bulbs and wiper blades may also be interested to learn that 94 per cent of motorists want to see the introduction of a standard code of practice for garages and repair centres.
Commenting on the findings, Motor Codes director Chris Mason said the organisation has launched a new advice line and website, listing establishments where drivers can expect a high level of service.
"It’s the safest way to guarantee good work at an honest price," he added.
In other motoring news, a recent survey by Continental Tyres revealed that 60 per cent of drivers ‘zone out’ when driving.
