Holidaymakers urged to keep cars safe
With more people than ever opting to remain in the UK or take driving holidays this summer, car owners are being urged to keep their belongings away from prying eyes.
According to the Post Office, some parents could spend as much as £800 on keeping their children entertained in the car this summer and, with expensive items such as headrest screens and travel games consoles becoming increasingly popular, motorists have been warned to take precautions.
Richard Pennant-Jones, head of travel insurance at the Post Office, said parents should be wary of opportunistic thieves.
"In hot weather it can be tempting to leave windows open when you’re away from the car, but people should be aware that this can invalidate cover on their car insurance policy," he explained.
To ensure that insurance is not invalidated, motorists must keep their windows, doors and car boots locked at all times, Mr Pennant-Jones added.
In related news, insurance provider esure recently announced plans to clamp down on the number of fraudulent claims being made by British motorists.
