Windscreen wiper parking tickets ‘are an advert to thieves’
Putting a parking ticket under windscreen wipers could give prospective thieves a helpful opportunity to steal from cars, an expert has suggested.
The information on the ticket may be useful to thieves interested in knowing how long the driver will be away from the vehicle in order to better acquaint themselves with the goods inside.
AA spokesman Ian Crowder has advised drivers to spend a bit more money parking in a properly managed car park instead of opting for the slightly cheaper pay and display alternative.
"If you’re in a car park, actually pay and display [is] sometimes not a good idea because you go buy a ticket and put it in the windscreen," he said.
"What you’re doing effectively is advertising how long you’re going to be away from the car."
The comments take on greater significance in the light of recent research released by LV which showed that the average value of a motor theft claim rose by 44 per cent between January and May this year, compared to the same period in 2007.
