RAC: Lack of safety technology on cheaper cars is disappointing
The lack of car safety technology on cheaper vehicle models has been described as "disappointing" by one expert.
Equipment such as electronic stability control, which specialists have hailed as the most important new safety measure since the seatbelt, is often fitted as standard to more expensive cars.
Philip Gomm, a spokesperson for the RAC Foundation, which conducts research into car safety and environmental issues, said that such technology was relatively cheap to produce and that it was therefore "disappointing" that many more economical models did not have it.
"Car companies have a moral and legal duty to protect the occupants of their vehicles and, of course, other road users," he said, commenting on whether manufacturers should prioritise safety or environmental concerns when developing new cars.
"Safety should not be an optional extra."
Mr Gomm also emphasised that car designers ought to heed motorists’ environmental concerns when producing new vehicle models.

Yeah of course the most important thing in developing car is safety, I think their should be an agency to handle security for every new car. This will make us safe, but we can’t stop people from buying those cheap cars because of financial. So to stop manufacturing those cheap cars that not passed in car security would not go to production. I would suggest to focus on both security and eco-friendly cars like developing hybrid cars or electric cars.
