Locking away your car at night may mean cheaper car insurance, expert says
Car bulbs customers may be interested to know that drivers who lock away their vehicle at night may be eligible for a "reasonable discount" on their car insurance, according to an insurance expert.
The comments follow the recent publication of a report by LV which said that thieves are increasingly targeting top-end motors, with the value of stolen cars having increased by almost 40 per cent in the past year.
Ian Crowder, a spokesperson for motoring specialist the AA, said that there were various ways of adding extra security to a vehicle in order to reduce insurance premiums, including having a tracker fitted.
"It will also benefit if your car’s locked in a garage at night rather than left on the drive," he said.
"You can get a reasonable discount for locking your car away at night."
In related news, research from AA Insurance recently revealed that there has been a 15 per cent increase in vehicle theft occurring subsequent to a robbery or domestic burglary.

It’s true! I wish there was a better way for insurance companies to check this, but often the reason vehicles are stolen is that they’re left out on the street!
Thanks for the tip as I did not know that locking your car away could make your insurance cheaper. I will be contacting my agent now and telling them my car is locked up and I want my cheaper rate.
