Choose your car insurance provider on quality not cost, says expert

Windscreen wiper customers might be interested to read that drivers should choose their car insurance provider based on the cover they provide and not the price, one expert has advised.
Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers’ Association, said that people should look for advice from their broker before taking out insurance and then look at their no claims bonus and the measures they can take to protect it.
According to the latest AA British Insurance Premium Index, car insurance premiums are going up at their fastest rate for almost a decade, rising by more than one per cent each month in the last quarter.
"Especially if you are a younger driver, look at the type of car and any modifications you have made," Mr Staddon said.
The Defaqto motor insurance market report correlated with the AA’s findings, reporting last week that insurers have been progressively increasing rates throughout 2008 and into 2009, despite more and more consumers being price conscious due to the recession.

I completely agree! too many people pick their insurance provider based solely on the bottom line – the thing is you don’t really use your insurance company until you need to – and by then you’re married to them! It’s much better to do the research beforehand – it’s not worth the pain of all the paperwork and hassle not to!
I am afraid that if insurance keeps climbing my kids will not be driving when they are old enough.
It took me a long time to find a car insurance company over here in Alberta that I really liked, but I was sure glad that I finally found one with all the features I wanted. Sure, it is a little more expensive, but like you said, you don’t want to be caught by surprise when you get in an accident and don’t have something covered.
