Motorists around the country have been checking to make sure that their eyes do not deceive them as they have caught transvestite comedian Eddie Izzard in their headlights.

The stand-up artist – whose live shows have included Sexie, Circle, Dress to Kill and Definite Article – hopes to run around 1,000 miles for Sport Relief.

Speaking to the BBC, he explained that he has received predominantly warm responses from members of the public, who have been willing to donate money to his cause.

He also noted that his celebrity status may have helped in this regard, as many drivers who have recognised him have pulled over to hand cash to him.

"In Birkenhead, almost every other car was honking, but there’s one per cent who are negative. You think, well, they don’t like themselves," Izzard concluded.

The next edition of Sport Relief is due to take place between March 19th and 21st 2010.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19330294-ADNFCR
