Highways Agency expects “busy” bank holiday
Written by Matthew Davies
Wiper blades customers should be prepared to deal with hectic conditions on the roads over the August bank holiday weekend, according to the Highways Agency.
Derek Turner, director of network operations at the organisation, made his comments as the body announced that it will either suspend or fully complete more than half of its road projects on major A roads and motorways ahead of the weekend.
"We expect the roads to the main holiday centres, ports and airports will be busy so we’re doing everything we can to help drivers with their journeys. We have removed as many roadworks as possible," he said.
Mr Turner said that during the summer months, people tend to make journeys to places that they are not familiar with, meaning they should plan their trip in advance and be prepared for unexpected occurrences.
Earlier this month, the agency said that too many unprepared drivers are setting off on journeys without ensuring they have enough fuel to complete their trip.
