Pay more attention to head restraints, says Brake

While car accessories such as wiper blades are very important, motorists have been urged to spend some time getting to know more about their head restraint.

Road safety charity Brake has teamed up with Direct Line Car Insurance to raise awareness about the importance of these automotive aids after research conducted by the two bodies found that two out of three drivers do not know how to use them.

The bodies explain that head restraints should be as close to the back of the neck as possible and ideally touch it. It should also be level with the top of a motorist’s head.

Mary Williams OBE, chief executive of Brake, said: "It only takes a couple of seconds to check and adjust your restraint and those of other occupants in your vehicle."

In recent weeks, Brake coordinated a scheme called the Fleet Safety Forum in which it urged drivers to do more to ensure that they do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle while they are fatigued.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19335761-ADNFCR
