Highways Agency: Be prepared for the bank holiday
Written by Richard Benjamin
Motorists should ensure they have taken a number of preparatory steps before they head off on a bank holiday road trip this weekend, the Highways Agency has asserted.
Derek Turner, director of network operations at the organisation, explained that vehicles should be loaded up with a number of essentials so that an unplanned event does not escalate into something more serious.
He recommended that drivers take food and water with them on a journey, as well as a map in case motorists need to find an alternate route.
"You should also check your vehicle’s tyres, oil, water and fuel before setting out and allow extra time to plan for breaks to complete your journey safely," Mr Turner concluded.
Extra car bulbs could also be a wise investment, should an existing one break.
Speaking to the agency earlier this month, PC Kev Walker explained that motorists should never run a red light, no matter how tempting it may be, as it is "extremely dangerous" and carries a fine plus three penalty points on a driver’s licence.
