Government ‘to crack down on rogue parking companies’

Wiper blades customers and other drivers are likely to welcome news that the government is cracking down on rogue parking companies.
Transport minister Sadiq Khan has announced the introduction of new rules that will limit access to data about road users.
The Department for Transport explained that at present, private companies are able to request motorists’ information from the DVLA so that they can issue penalty notice to people who have parked on private land illegally.
However, they will now need to be a member of an accredited trade association in order to obtain this data.
Commenting, Mr Khan, who is the MP for Tooting, Balham, Earlsfield, Furzedown and Wandsworth Common, said: "Where drivers break legitimate conditions set by landowners then it is right that penalties are applied. But we will not tolerate unscrupulous firms breaking the law by overcharging or intimidating motorists."
The move is part of a number of initiatives that will be rolled out later this year.
