A pair of brand-new engines has been launched by Alfa Romeo for its Alfa 159 range.

Car bulbs customers may welcome the news that the 1750 TBi and the 2.0 JTDM are Euro-5 compliant and that both the Alfa Spider and Alfa Brera will be fitted with the powerplants later in 2009.

The 2.0 JTDM diesel engine features advanced multijet technology that can deliver maximum torque of 360 Nm between 1,750 rpm and 2,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, the 16-valve, twin overhead camshaft 1750 TBi petrol powerplant is able to achieve its maximum torque at 1,400, which is just a little faster than tickover speed.

"These two new high-technology petrol and diesel engines will complement existing petrol and diesel units in the 159 range and introduce a combination of increased torque and power with lower emissions and greater fuel efficiency," the manufacturer explained.
