A new road model from McLaren is to feature the same kind of single windscreen wiper blade used on the group’s Formula One cars, it has been revealed.

The manufacturer announced the MP4-12C will be the first of a number of high-performance autos the company is planning to produce.

It revealed the windscreen has been designed so it is deep and low, allowing for excellent levels of visibility.

The group pointed out the model is like the company’s Formula One car in this respect.

Another similarity is the fact a single weight-saving pantograph wiper clears the glass of rain.

Meanwhile, McLaren said the front of the vehicle is dominated by bi-xenon car lights and LED running lamps.

The group predicted the MP4-12C will have a significant impact on the high-performance vehicle sector.

It stated: "The rules in the sports car world are about to be re-written."

Elsewhere, Mercedes-Benz is due to unveil its SLS AMG prestige auto at the Frankfurt International Motor Show next week.

Windscreen wipers on an formula one car eh? Obviously a well researched article. Are they planning to use the same doors and roof as well?

Formula 1 cars don’t have either a windscreen or a wiper blade. Presumably someone is confusing the Gordon Murray designed McLaren F1 sports car (produced from 1992 to 1998) with a McLaren Formula One racing car.

The McLaren F1 sports car – a forerunner to the new MP4-12C – did indeed just have the one wiper blade.

Two words describe that car: “Wow” and “Magnific”
