Vauxhall Astra to feature Gentex car lights technology

The 2010 edition of the Vauxhall Astra will be the first compact auto to feature Gentex’s SmartBeam car lights technology, it has been claimed.
According to the company behind the system, its High-Beam Assist unit maximises an auto’s front illuminations.
Gentex also claimed the device makes life easier for the person at the wheel.
It explained the technology automatically turns full beams on and off, so that motorists do not need to do it manually.
The system will be used in combination with Vauxhall’s xenon headlamps.
It works by using algorithmic decision making and a miniature camera-on-a-chip.
Enoch Jen, senior vice-president of the firm behind the product, said: "This is the first SmartBeam programme in the compact vehicle class in Europe."
He added: "Gentex is proud to partner with Opel/Vauxhall in making new technologies available in the compact vehicle segment."
The new Astra is currently making its debut at the Frankfurt International Motor Show.
