Drivers ‘still spending on car accessories’

Cash-strapped motorists who cannot afford to trade in their current auto for a newer model may still be spending money on accessories such as car bulbs and windscreen wiper blades, if new research is anything to go by.
A study by the insurer Swiftcover found sales of vehicles straight off the production line have fallen 21.5 per cent over the past year.
However, drivers have not cut out spending on motor-related accessories.
The company’s investigations showed sales of personalised registrations have remained relatively stable – with purchases down less than five per cent compared with this time in 2008.
Marketing director Tina Shortle said the fact hard-up motorists still like to treat themselves to auto-related products demonstrates that Brits are a nation of car lovers.
"For many drivers, personalised registrations add to the enjoyment of motoring," she stated.
Meanwhile, people who replace worn car bulbs and windscreen wiper blades may even find it saves them money in the long run, as ensuring these parts are in good working order could help prevent accidents and hefty repair bills.
