Mystery bidder shells out thousands for private plate

Motorists who like to ensure their autos look good by upgrading car bulbs and other vehicle parts may find it hard to imagine spending thousands of pounds on one accessory.
However, this is exactly what one mystery bidder did at a recent auction.
DVLA Personalised Registrations has revealed that an unnamed individual paid £87,853.75 for the private plate 5 O.
It pointed out the whole O-series has proved popular, with the five examples that have gone under the hammer so far generating £566,344 for the treasury.
Marketing manager Damian Lawson stated: "The decision to release them to the public has certainly proved worthwhile in terms of the revenue raised for the nation."
December will see 6 O made available at a sale being held at Tankersley Manor Hotel in Barnsley.
Earlier this year, DVLA Personalised Registrations suggested HOT 71P could be the ideal private plate for someone who enjoys a flutter on the horses.
