Motorists urged to tread carefully

Replacing worn car bulbs and windscreen wiper blades is not the only thing drivers can do to reduce their chances of being involved in an accident this winter, it has been suggested.
According to TyreSafe, motorists also need to check whether their auto is likely to offer sufficient grip when roads are slippery.
The group described the number of vehicle owners who fail to consider this aspect of basic maintenance as "shocking".
A survey by the organisation found drivers in the north-west and East Anglia are the worst culprits in this respect – with almost a quarter admitting they have never check the tread depth of their tyres.
Chairman Stuart Jackson warned motorists who fail to conduct this type of maintenance are playing a dangerous game.
He stated: "Without regularly checking tread depth, the only time these drivers realise they are lacking grip may be as they are skidding out of control towards another vehicle."
Meanwhile, TV presenter and motoring journalist Quentin Willson has thrown his weight behind the group’s latest road safety campaign.
