Company car drivers ‘should tread carefully’

Company car drivers who always make sure they replace worn car bulbs and windscreen wiper blades may want to start paying similar attention to another form of vehicle maintenance, if comments from one organisation are anything to go by.
According to TyreSafe, it is particularly important that people who use their autos for business purposes regularly check their wheels offer enough grip, as they tend to spend longer than average on the road.
However, recent research by the group found 41 per cent of company car drivers had not tested tread depth within the last six months.
A further 25 per cent of those questioned admitted they had never looked to see if their tyres were likely to offer sufficient grip in wet conditions.
TyreSafe chairman Stuart Jackson commented: "By performing these checks just once a month, we believe the number of work-related accidents and cost to UK businesses can be dramatically reduced."
In related news, the group recently named drivers in the north-west and East Anglia as being the least conscientious when it comes to this aspect of car maintenance.
