Motorists advised to clean car lights and replace old wiper blades

Drivers should give all external car lights and mirrors a thorough clean as winter approaches, according to the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI).
It said the onset of winter can be bad news for motorists as little light, bad weather and worse roads conspire to make driving tiring, unpleasant, and sometimes even dangerous.
The trade body advised drivers that before setting off, they need to make sure the settings of their car bulbs match the driving conditions. The RMI said that, as the winter months go on, drivers will find themselves using their headlights more and more, but their use will need to be appropriate for the road conditions.
If conditions change during a journey, settings should be altered accordingly, for example if you use front and rear fog car lights unnecessarily you will be breaking the law.
It is an offence to apply them on a clear night, when they could dazzle other road users.
Motorists are also being asked by the RMI to check windscreen wipers for wear and replace them if necessary.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recently urged people to pay more attention on the roads now that the clocks have gone back and daylight hours are shorter.
