Motor Codes gives winter driving advice

Motor industry self-regulatory body, Motor Codes, is encouraging its garages to provide expert winter motoring advice to its customers.
The company has gathered expert opinion from across the motor industry and it is asking its subscribing garages to pass it on to customers.
Steve Boyce, from S&B Motors in Middlesex, advised drivers to always keep the lenses of their car lights clean and make sure they regularly check that the car bulbs are working.
"Regular washing and even an application of a high-quality car wax will protect and preserve your paintwork from corrosion, particularly during winter when the salt used to keep roads ice-free can accelerate paint damage," he added.
One of RoadSafe director Adrian Walsh’s top tips for winter driving was to keep car lights and mirrors free from snow and ice, not just the windows, as car headlight bulbs ensure road users can see each other as well as the road.
Last month the Retail Motor Industry Federation said motorists should check their car windscreen wipers for wear and replace them if necessary as driving conditions worsen in the winter months.
