Young motorists ‘driving recklessly’

More than a quarter of young motorists are driving recklessly and illegally, according to shocking figures from Co-operative Insurance and Brake.
Some 30 per cent of young drivers admit to things far worse than forgetting to check their lightbulbs are in working order, saying they drive recklessly and illegally, despite the potentially deadly consequences.
A quarter of those questioned on the 2 Young 2 Die campaign website revealed that they drive without insurance, a valid MOT certificate or driving licence.
Speeding is also a common crime among Britain’s young drivers, with more than a third breaking limits in built-up areas, while four in ten admit to texting or chatting on their mobile while behind the wheel.
"We believe that more needs to be done to make young drivers more aware of the deadly consequences of irresponsible driving and to highlight the drastic consequences flouting the law can have," said David Neave, director of general insurance at the Co-operative Insurance.
