Young drivers are more at risk of getting into difficult situations because they do not maintain their cars properly, according to Ford.

Andy Barratt, customer service director at Ford, said: "Pressures on young people’s finances can mean skimping on essential servicing, care and maintenance. This can be dangerous, especially as their vehicles are likely to be older."

He explained that Ford offers free tyre inspections for its customers and, for £99, cars over three years old can receive a full service including an inspection of wiper blades, wiring, hoses and exhausts.

Mechanics will also check the transmission, brakes, running gear and dashboard illumination.

Mr Barratt was highlighting the importance of regular car maintenance ahead of National Road Safety Week, which begins on Monday, November 23rd.

The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is Not a Drop, Not a Drag – Stay Sober, Save Lives, which calls on all drivers to commit to not drink even a drop of alcohol before driving, or take even a drag on a joint or any other illegal drug.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19469196-ADNFCR
