Skidding on wet roads is drivers 'biggest fear'

Written by Tom Benjamin.

Driving without car headlights on a dark night would be a frightening experience, yet the biggest fear drivers in the UK have is skidding on wet roads, according to a recent poll.

The research, undertaken by CCB fast.MAP for retail website mytyres.co.uk, found that 55 per cent of the motorists that took part feared skidding out of control more than other disasters on the road.

Breaking down was the second highest fear, whereas getting a punctured tyre was the worst nightmare of only three per cent of those quizzed.

According to Tyre Safe, the risk of skidding on a road is increased if a vehicle’s tyres are defective or worn.

The organisation advises motorists to examine their tyres regularly, removing stones and other objects from the tread and to check that the tread meets the minimum required depth of 1.6mm.

It said that a tyre specialist should be contacted if lumps or bulges appear in the tyres, as these can be signs of internal damage.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19491918-ADNFCR
