Windscreen wiper blades: Registrations through scrappage exceed 250,000 units

Written by Tom Benjamin.

The number of cars traded for new vehicles, with brand-new windscreen wiper blades, totalled 251,629 between March and November of this year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT)

Figures from the SMMT also show that the scrappage scheme accounted for 21.6 per cent of all new car registrations.

Paul Everitt, chief executive at SMMT, said: "Scrappage continues to have a positive impact on vehicle registrations, contributing to the 57.6 per cent increase in November’s registrations.

"It has helped to generate consumer confidence and SMMT urges government to sustain the recovery and support the long-term future of the motor industry through its Pre-Budget Report."

Under the scrappage scheme, those buying a new car can have their old vehicle, which could have worn wiper blades, scrapped and they will receive a discount of around £2,000 off the price of a new vehicle.

The scheme has been extended by the government and an extra 100,000 scrappage deals are now on offer.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19503784-ADNFCR
