Brits ‘reluctant’ to get behind windscreen wiper blades of electric cars

Drivers in England are more reluctant than other European motorists to get behind the windscreen wiper blades of a vehicle that uses alternative fuel, according to a recent study.
The annual Europcar Observatory, an independent survey covering seven countries in Europe and over 5,000 drivers, found that only half of Brits would consider driving an alternative fuel vehicle, such as an electric car, whereas 65 per cent of drivers in Europe would be prepared to give it a go.
Catriona Lougher, marketing director for Europcar, said that the average householder is helping the environment by recycling, changing to low voltage light bulbs and turning down the thermostat, but when it comes to the car, people are less prepared to think of the environment.
"A lot of this comes down to the fact that the car is still a status symbol, and whilst we are happy to find ways to cut motoring costs, the environmental benefits of easing off the pedal or using the car less are secondary for most UK motorists," said Ms Lougher.
THINK announced today that those who have placed an order for the THINK City electric vehicle will be behind their car windscreen wiper blades in time for Christmas.
