Car bulbs: Volvo wins Green Car of the Year award

Those following the light from their Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe’s car bulbs around the dark roads this winter may be pleased to hear that the vehicle has been named Green Car of the Year by TheGreenCarWebsite.co.uk.
The vehicle, which emits just 99kg/km of carbon dioxide, beat vehicles such as the Toyota Prius and BMW 316d to achieve the title.
Faye Sunderland, editor of the website, said: "The C30 1.6D DRIVe with Start/Stop technology is genuinely a fantastic addition to the green scene this year."
She added that, in a relatively short space of time, Volvo has "slashed its emissions".
"As a relative newcomer in the green car market, it is impressive to see the Swedish carmaker make such strong progress in such a short time."
Peter Rask, managing director for Volvo Car UK said that the company hopes to eventually develop cars with zero carbon dioxide emissions.
In September, Volvo announced that the vehicle was to be exempt from the annual Vehicle Excise Duty as it emits less carbon dioxide than the threshold dictated by the tax.
