Trafficmaster warns drivers of potential delays

It is wise for motorists to prepare for driving in bad weather by checking their car bulbs are all functioning correctly, but Trafficmaster has warned drivers to also prepare for long delays over the Christmas period.

Trafficmaster is advising motorists to allow extra time for their journeys as the wet and very cold weather that is expected over the coming weeks will add to the congestion on Britain’s roads.

Graham Smith, data manager at Trafficmaster, which monitors traffic congestion across the country, explained that the roads are busier over the festive period as people head out to do the last bits of their festive shopping and travel to see friends or relatives for Christmas.

"The great unknown factor affecting congestion at this time of year is, of course, the weather, which could make journeys much more difficult," said Mr Smith.

The AA warned yesterday that if the UK experiences an extended period of bad weather like the one that hit in February, half of the UK’s local authorities will not be able to clear the roads as they do not have large enough salt supplies.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19513064-ADNFCR
