IAM: 'Use dipped car lights in falling snow'

Posted by Tom Benjamin.

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) has advised motorists to used dipped car lights during falling snow to ensure they are visible to other motorists and pedestrians.

It also warned drivers to use fog car lights when visibility is poor but to turn them off when they are not needed as they can dazzle other drivers.

IAM was prompted to issue the advice after recent snowfall in parts of the UK.

Peter Rodger, chief examiner at IAM, said: "When driving in snow, get your speed right – not too fast so that you risk losing control, but not so slow that you risk losing momentum when you need it."

He added that motorists should brake, steer and accelerate "as smoothly as possible".

Earlier this week, a survey, conducted by Opinium for the Saga Group, found that 48 per cent of drivers are concerned about driving when the weather is bad.ADNFCR-2370-ID-19518787-ADNFCR
